Discussion: Receiving and Releasing Information
A colleague reaches out to you requesting information on a client. You do not have a lot of information as you have only interviewed the client one time. They are working with the clients spouse who is also seeking help from your agency. Your colleague asked if you could just send over what you have and its just for her purposes. It wont be shared with her client. Since it wont be shared beyond your colleague you send it along via fax that is only located in her office and others do not have access to it.
To Prepare
Consider whether the colleague requested the information in an appropriate way in the provided scenario. Did you release the information in an acceptable manner? Review the considerations Summers discusses in Chapter 19 of your course text.
Post an explanation of two considerations about receiving and releasing information about people who could be considered human and social services clients in your area of interest. Then discuss the two potential issues that you selected in detail: define what they are how a human and social services professional can identify these situations and advise what cautions should be taken by the human and social services professional in these situations.
Use your textbook and at least two peer-reviewed resources to cite in your responses.
