Critical Reflection Paper
Write a Critical Reflection Paper. This paper is an exercise of critical self-reflection based on previous knowledge and/or personal and professional experiences with an oppressed group and a social issue/problem of interest. The paper will describe, summarize or narrate something lived, witnessed or learned on the population and social problem of interest. It will include a thoughtful analysis considering your personal ideas, perspectives, beliefs, values and practices (practices as expressions and behaviors) over time. Being self-aware will assist us in overcoming obstacles when differences in values and norms may arise while working with a person, a family, a group, or a community.
Students will choose an oppressed group, social issue or problem of interest and will develop an 8 page paper (NOT including your title or references page) describing and comparing a MACRO approach (community/agency) AND a MICRO approach (individual) to solve the social problem.
Students will include a thoughtful analysis considering the students own personal ideas, perspectives, beliefs, values and practices.
Student will include all stages of the social work process for both approaches. For example the problem of domestic violence-describe and compare each practice stage: engagement, assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, termination, and follow up of practice phases as they would be undertaken by a Victims’ Community Education Program (macro) AND Individual counseling (micro). Incorporate materials from the course readings and materials.
