Choose a pair of Monsters/Monstrous Humans from the assigned readings. This monster/monstrosity will serve as your focus area for a 5 to 6 page (double-spaced) position paper about the ways they are represented through one or more theses presented in Jeffrey Cohens Praxis article Monster Culture. In addition your writing will highlight the similarities and differences between the two works as well as providing author context and your personal commentary on which one you feel is more monstrous and why.
The two works that I have to use for this project and reference to are the MEDUSA poem one written by Sylvia Plath and the other one is written by Patricia Smith.
The theses to use in this argumaent can be one of the following
1.The Monster’s body is a cultural body
2.The monster always escapes
3. The monster is the Harbinger of category crisis
4. The monster dwells at the gates of difference
5. The monster polices the borders of the possible.
6. Fear of the Monster is really a kind of desire
7. The monster stands at the Threshold….of becoming..
In the introduction and the writing the writer should use vivid detail and go in depth with their research in regards to who Medusa is and the points that the two authers Plath and Smith were trying to get across. If other resoures are used citate and incorporate a work cited page. The work cited page does not count as a page though.
I have attacthed the two poems that you are suppose to use.
