Your final project will include a research paper of 10 pages and a 1 page abstract of the paper.
The project is due on May 17. This paper will be used to estimate your overall grasp of concepts significant to our course and your ability to develop critical arguments related to the course. You will extend your learning into the field of independent research and form well-organized coher- ent technically and grammatically sound analysis of the material at hand. The paper will also be helpful in assessing students familiarity with primary material as well as secondary sources for research.
    Guidelines
You are expected to write with a thesis and argument providing support for your asser- tions by citing specific quotes or ideas from the text. However do not use large blocs of quotes to fill up the paper. Quotations should be used discretely to illustrate your ar- gument.
Your thesis statement must be underlined or in bold text.
Make sure to have an original title for the paper.
Use parenthesis to make in-text citations. A Works Cited page needs to follow the essay. A
failure to acknowledge sources through citations constitutes plagiarism.
As mentioned above the paper is to be 10 pages in length (not including Works Cited)
double-spaced using Times New Roman 12-point font with one inch margins. USE MLA METHOD OF CITATION. Use The MLA handbook for Writers of Research Papers 7th ed. as a guide.
The abstract is ideally supposed to be 1 page single spaced.
    Number your pages.
Your name the instructors name class section and date will appear on the top left hand
corner of the first page of both the paper and the abstract. NO COVER PAGE.
Staple and secure the pages at the top left-hand corner with your abstract preceding the
    paper.
As mentioned above your paper is due on May 17. Remember it is your responsibili- ty to ensure that I receive your work to be graded. Do not send your papers as attach- ments or do not leave them in my mailbox. For your safety they need to be handed to me in person.
Grades will be based on four equally important criteria: 1) formulation of intellectual problem/response to topic 2) knowledge of subject/content which includes both your pri- mary and secondary research material 3) analysis and interpretation 4) clarity of purpose organization language and mechanics.
REMEMBER: This assignment requires you to critically analyze and interpret the read- ings as well as do independent research. It is not looking for a mere summary of the materi- al.
    Assignment
You can choose to revise and expand on one of the two short formal papers into a 10 page paper incorporating some outside research. You are required to use at least one piece that we have read in class. It is a basic requirement that you work within the frame of the course. Make sure that you bring in research material that will closely comment on your primary readings. Do not for- get that you are also required to submit a 1 page single spaced abstract of the project along with the final paper. The abstract does not count toward 10 pages nor does the Works Cit- ed page.
The MLA standard is that you will use as many sources (primary + secondary) as the number of pages in your research paper but make sure that you only use sources that are pertinent even if fewer.
