This week you’ll be exploring wellness through the Interdisciplinary Lens of Environmental Studies which include urban design public planning and the environment. You’ll be taking a look at the environmental aspects of wellness such as food deserts urban design for walking and biking air/noise/chemical pollution and urban gardening. Something that I think you’ll really enjoy is taking a look at your won neighborhood and surrounding city with regard to environmental factors related to wellness and then connect them to the eight dimensions of wellness that we have been discussing this course. I always find this exercise interesting both personally and academically because of the eye opening that it promotes. Many students are surprised at how unlivable or unwalkable their communities are. This really does create a sense of awareness as we continue to examine how well our lives are.
