There is no such thing as a definitive guide to parenting. While there are hundreds of books out there to offer advice, warnings, and so on when it comes to raising a baby and child, they can be incredibly varied in their approaches to “good” parenting.
One of the more specific yet controversial (for lack of a better word) parenting philosophies is Attachment Parenting (AP), developed by well-known pediatrician, Dr. Sears. AP is an approach to parenting that includes a variety of practices believed to be ideal for raising a happy, healthy, confident child.

Visit http://www.attachmentparenting.org/ and review the information provided. Be sure to dig down and explore the entire site until you have a solid grasp of the basic principles and practices associated with this philosophy, as well as the reasons behind them.

Then, choose two AP principles/practices and discuss how they support physical, cognitive, and/or social-emotional development in infancy. Be sure to be very specific about the relevant developmental concepts (using the appropriate terminology), and subsequently very specific about how you think this parenting philosophy supports those concepts.

Finally, share your thoughts on Attachment Parenting. What about this approach strikes you as ideal? What about it do you think might make it controversial?
